Watch this space.

10 februari 2024 - Cape St. Francis, Zuid-Afrika

The greatest laid plans they say... Having gotten used to the sounds of the house we tucked in last night after enjoying our first braai (BBQ). I felt a little like Roinbson Crusoe with the axe, chopping the wood to a useable size and then using matches to light the Robinsons Crusoe 2.0 firelighters.

Around 02h30 we were startled awake by a new noise. OMG WTF is that. Pelting, driving rain on the corrugated roof sheets. Both of us were sitting upright in the bed within a second and looking at eachother. Pretty much shock and awe! We cuddled up close and lay awake with nothing else to do but listen to our Mother Nature. New sound for the vault. Once the gusts and severity of the rain had melted down to a gentle pour we could sleep again.

06h30 the biological alarm went off as per usual. Up and out of bed the kettle whistled (old fashioned on the gas stove) to call us for our morning coffee. Once the curtains were opened it only took a second to realise that watch this space was going to have to be postponed.  Overcast and raining, raining and overcast. A look at our best weather forecasters predictions said that after 07h00 the rain would cease and over the course of the day the wind would slowly subside.

Change of plans. Morning trip to the supermarket for groceries would be first on the list. Those bloody speed bumps catch me out every time! Thank heavens for my navigator!  We decided to visit our acquaintance whom we met yesterday, Barry at his bakery to buy some bread for lunch. We settled on a fresh Ciabatta. So difficult to resist warm fresh wholesome artisanal bread!!! (not going to comment further on the word artisanal. Okay I will. An artist who is anal about getting it right!) Good man Baker Barry!

Still no joy on the weather front. Rain, sun, rain sun... Never long enough to get out and do something, so we settled for an afternooner at 11h00. Out for the count in seconds and with sporcadic waking moments we tore ourselvs from the bed at 13h30! It seemed like the batteries were never going to charge.

A little later Ingrid said that she had to do something pyhsical. Into the costumes and off to the beach. I had a wonderful body surf at the main beach and Ingrid sat on the shore watching. Back at home she still wanted to go for a walk to get a bit of action in her joints. The weather finally was seeming to listen to the weathermen and the sun was out and the wind had died. We packed a small backpack with water and a nut mix for the watch this space moment.

To the left of the house in the distance is a recent shipwreck. Probably December or so of last year she ran aground. We can see her from the deck and is probably about a 3km walk along the coast. This was the watch the space moment. Planned and not yet executed. Using my best friends favourite series, I would guess, patented phrase, ENGAGE!

It was a lovely walk and the weather was perfect for our outing. Somewhere near the end Ingrid had a little swim and then we sat eating some nuts and sipping on our water. I felt like I could have stayed there for many hours. We had only met 2 people and their dogs, part of the reason why we like this village.

It is the age old thing... The more we move, the more we feel like moving. My body feels so much better after my body surf an lovely long walk along the beach. Not to mention the feeling of the sand sort of massaging ones bare feet! Rejuvenated I look forward to a nice cold beer and a braai!

We hope that the weathermen give us a full nights sleep tonight! Till later, Goodnight all!
