Normality resumed

6 maart 2024 - Cape St Francis, Zuid-Afrika

The youngesters went out a little after we went to bed and arrived home at 00h30. They had intended to continue the festivities, but Justin said enough is enough and sent them home. What I do like about the youth of today is that they Uber when they are going to drink and that is peace of mind for the parents. I think that there may be a few who have a slight headache today.

In the morning we waited out the rush hour traffic and sent brother and T off to work. Nephew J had not surfaced. Silly this Sabattical. We had an overnight bag with enough clothes etc for 2 days and were packed in less than 5 minutes. Beauty of it all is that if we leave anything behind, either we pick it up next time or brother brings is with him when he comes to visit. Perhaps this weekend they should come out here as the forecast is for perfect weather.

On our way out of town we stopped in at the large Mall, Bay West , on the edge of town. Ingrid wanted to have a look at Cotton On as they generally tend to have lovely clothing. No Cotton On no more... She has since done her homework and there is another store in a shopping mall in Walmer in PE. The credit card sighed a sigh of relief. Lol. We did general grocery shopping at Woolworths and I picked up 2 bottles of white wine for if we needed it. Probably we ( We = me) would need it tonight.

Coming back into CSF (cape st francis) we stopped in at the local supermarket to fill our water bottles (Refills are cheaper). I was in the mood for cheese and tomato toasted sandwiches, so that got thrown into the trolley with some Gouda cheese (I am pretty confident that the cheese does not originate in Gouda, but it is labelled Gouda Cheese).

Oohh, it was good to be back in CSF and the weather had turned from foul yesterday, to perfect today. It was just what one would order. The surfers would also agree as CSF is a surfing mecca and today the ocean produced. We arbed around the house and Ingrid did the washing and I hung it out. Sitting on the deck on our favourtie picnic table that we love, the coffee tasted like chocolate. Peace on earth personified!

The toasted sandwiches tasted brilliant and I had to have another cup of that coffee!  It was time for an afternooner and I do not think that I was awake for very long. I am not sure what Ingrid did, but she did say that she had a short nap. It was time to put the roof racks on Dusty for this evenings time trial paddle. It was the weekly wednesday time trial and I wanted to be sure that I was on time as the last 2 time trials I was 1 minute and 3 minutes late. Today I was 20 minutes early and received comments from the peanut gallery.

It was a hard time trial. Little wind and it was quite hot to boot. 5km and I started out in the lead group, but after about 2km they slowly pulled away. I did a PB (Personal best) and shaved about a half a minute off my time. Next time maybe a little better. I have realised that my paddle stroke can improve and I think not just a bit. I have seen some photos and I think that I need to adapt my paddle stroke. I am sure that if I perfect my stroke, it will be beneficial for my time.

I was a little anxious as I had dropped Ingrid off at main beach for her to sun tan and a swim. I was lightly nervous as this would be the first time that I left her alone to make her own decisions as to entering the ocean. I hoped that I would see her face when I came home. Thankfully the lights were on when I came home! Congratulations Ingrid. Who would have thought? My wife alone in the ocean!

I am glad that she survived as she could make us supper (Heeheee). NO seriously I was proud of you and the supper was tasty as hell. Pumpkin, spinach, mushrooms and feta cheese with a little salt and pepper and garlic. 2 delicious meals in 2 nights! Thanks Chef! (PS the spinach we harvested from brothers garden, fresh and  crunchy this morning. I do not think that I have eaten such good spinach before).

The last hour we have whatsapp video called with the kids. It feel like we are at home with them, although we are probably the better part of 10 thousand kilometers apart. It was Great to speak to them. They seem to be happy. We are happy and have approx 2 months left of out Mini Sabattical.

The app said that there was not going to be load shedding for the next two days and about yet we got a notification from the app. Load shedding begins in 55 minutes! HMMM?  Excuse me? Bang promtly 55 minutes later the electricity went off. I guess it is what it is. OKAY we say!

PS.Congratulation Jennifer on your Bungy Jump at Storm River (4th highest in the world 216 meters).

PPS Thanks to brother and T for the fine time in PE! See you soon again.
