Highlight: Lunch!

11 maart 2024 - Cape St Francis, Zuid-Afrika

Another day, another dollar, just that neither of us are working right now. Been that way for 5 weeks now. I had had a few plans in my head before we left and was perhaps going to do this, or perhaps going to do that. Point be made... none of that has yet to enter my mind. We are just enjoying our time and are still not bored enough to want to explore other options to date.

That seems not only to be the case for me, but for Ingrid it is idem ditto. She does say that if she were to live here that she could probably not go week in and week out without having anything specific to do (Job), but like me she has not had the inclination to follow that course yet. I am certain that if one were to want to proceed in that direction that doors would open up left right and centre here. People here like a sense of community and if you are serious, they will definately give you a shot. Slam dunk!

So there we go. Up in the morning and off to school. Do not forget that first cup of It's a new day! Ingrid had a Pilates lesson at 08h30 and we dwindled away the time doing nothing in particular. Off she went in Dusty and I stayed at home and got a few (Read few) pieces of the new puzzle done. Time flies when you are having fun and she was back before I knew it.

Ingrid is suffering with her ankle this morning and I have residual toe restriction so a walk was out of the question. We took a look on Google Maps to see what options we had for a 'day trip' somewhere. Left is Tsitsikamma National park and right is Jeffries Bay or Port Elizabeth. We felt that neither was an option as in Tsitsikamma we would need to walk or be active and PE  might involve a sleep over at brothers. Not that we would mind, but we just wanted to do something to get out of the house as beautiful as it is here, one needs a bit of a change of scenery.

Google maps was not providing assistance and I thought of a Restaurant on the beach at Jeffries Bay, Walschipper. It seemed like a good idea to go there for lunch. Ingrid showered after her work out and I am quite pleased to say that she no longer wears make up, so he was ready in record time. Having 2 daughters and a wife I was amazed at the lengths that they would go to just to leave the house, even if it was to go to the supermarket. In this interesting world of ours, we (woman mainly) are constantly bombarded with the 'perfect image' and are pushed to live up to it one has to wear this or put that on ones body. Somwhere someone is laughing and raking in the coin!

A perfect example is my Mother and her Sister. SIster was a reperesentative for oil of olay ((Oil of Olaz in Dutch). Sister kept trying to push the products on my Mom. You will not have wrinkels or this or that when you are older said Sister. Many many many years later my Mom sent me an innocent picture (selfie) of her and Sister. Just because. I looked at the picture and called Ingrid over to have a look. 'What do you see on this photo?" I asked. Your mom and her sister was Ingrid's reply.  Look at the wrinkels I said. What about it? Mother who had never ever used any skin products had just as many wrinkles as sister dear. How many htousands had sister spent in her life to 'look younger' and at the end of the day little or no difference.

I diverge. Ingrid drove Dusty and true to her shameless self Dusty was soon on a dirt road heading toward the restaurant. Lol. When we hit the tarred road, I think that the first 50 meters was worse than the dirt road. Potholes in the road would swallow small animals. Soon we were seated at the restaurant that was literally on the beach. The "Inside" for the restaurant was a tented affair with beach sand underfoot. We decided to sit outside under the umbrellas. The wind was at home, but nothing too serious.

It has not really happened to me that that I could not decide on my meal. Very unusual. I wanted this, that and the other, but that precise combination was not on the menu. In the end I settled for the King prawns and Ingrid for a vergatarian curry. We began with Moer koffie. Ehem? Moer koffie? I asked what that was and we were given the answer that she did not know the origin of the name, but it was practically filter coffee. No cappuchino or almond milk for our grazer.

I have an analytical mind and the Moer coffee arrived and the cogs started turning. The best that I can come up with is that the coffee was served in a glass thingy with a plunger. I think that you all know the thing that I am talking about. You put ground coffee into the pottom and then fill with water. Lastly you place the punger thing gingerly on the top and push the plunger down which traps the coffee grinds at the bottom and the "pure coffee' above the plunger. So Moer in Afrikaans is to hit. My guess is that one Moers (Hits the plunger and that is Moer koffie.

We had been to this restaurant once before with Ingrids parents and it had not changed much. The waitrons were in shorts and barefoot. Lekker work iniforms. It is laid back and the food lived up to expectations. Good call Team.

On our way home we took the other route which was 5 minutes slower, but would take us pass the mall in Jeffries Bay. For a change we could shop at another supermarket. A change is as good as bag and Dusty headed home. I could tell that Ingrid was tired and just wanted to get home to rest after her mornings exertions. Back home we unpacked the groceries and went feet up with a cup of Rooibos tea with ginger.

I did have an afternooner and Ingrid began on the new book that she had bought at the bookstore this morning. Before we could click our fingers it was 4pm and then it was 5pm. I told Ingrid that I was going to swim at main beach and she packed her bikini and made no promises. Once at main beach we remarked on the fact hat we were the only people on the beach (Moderate easterly wind). Aha. Mystery solved. Blue bottles on the waterline, so it was high tail it for home. Those things although not fatal, can put a pretty big shock on the nervous system if they get wrapped around a body part. Almost like a Stinging Nettle (Brandnetel in Dutch) and then some. Take no chances.

After a short shower I was ready for the evening and a glass of wine. It is very humid today and we have the windows open for a through wind to cool us down. Toasted sandwiches for dinner as the lunch had filled the stomach.

During the evening I was called on Whatsapp by my assistent in Dordrecht a few times to clarify a few things. Yes, we miss you too Catja! It is nice to hear her voice as she is almost part of the family. Give it another 25 years or so... LOL! Have you booked your ticket yet?
