Family

5 maart 2024 - Port Elizabeth, Zuid-Afrika

It rained last night. quite a few millimeters fell on the roofs of Port Elizabeth, but not sustained long enough to fill the water tanks from the runoff from the roofs. Our lady dog Rileys was a bit restless last night and came through to our room twice to jump on the bed and cuddle up next to Ingrid's legs. She can snore that dog, but she is too cute at the same time.

We were up with the family as they once again had to trapse off to work and the morning promissed great things. The sun was shining and the sky was blue and the wind was very light. Big things were promissed for the afternoon by the weather men. Very strong winds were expected so If we were going to do anything, we had best do it in the early hours. We had no plans.

We got stuck into the puzzle which we had laid down on the pool table in brothers outside room. I have to say we got quite a bit done in the morning. I had phoned my Dad to see if he could fit us in today to do something and he said that he had a few customers to visit and we should meet for lunch. We were not set on going to the same place that we usually go with him, which is just down the road from his place, so I suggested a new place a few minutes drive from there. The new place where the Blue Waters had been.

We were running a few mintues late and when we left I called him to tell him. He also had a shrot hold up and had not left yet. Once we arrived at the beachfront, we did not see Dads car in the parking lot so we decided to go insid and wiat for him. When we walked inside th e place was empty and there were 2 people cleaning. I asked if they were open and the people said, no only late tonight. It was like a lounge bar setup and no longer a restaurant. I phoned Dad to tell him to ivert to our regular place. We once again had a lovely meal and a good chat.

After lunch it was back home  along the coastal road and we saw evidence of the fire that had raged here a few days ago. It was really confronting to see how much devastaion there was. Fortunately the fires had not seemed to cause lots of damaged to property, but it had been a good one. One thing that struck me was that the telephone poles in the bush still all seemed not to be burnt. Maybe a specail coating at manufacture?

The wind had really stiffened so at home we sat down with the puzzle again. We made lots of progress today. We did make a stop on the way for some flowers for sister in law. Girls do like a bunch of flowers. Ingrid had an afternooner and I sat with the puzzle. When brother came home from work he took the dog for a walk in the gale. Lucky that Riley is short and would not blow away very quickly.

Dinner for 4 at the sushi restaurant. Nice and early 18h00. The last time we were there the food was scrumptious! Very tasty indeed. The girls did not even need to look at the menu and Justin & I eventually decided on the same meal that we had had the last time there. When the waitress arrived to take our order she explained the special. Tuna with egg fried rice and stir fried vegetables. SOLD! We would both have that. The ladies stuck to their original choice. Another very good meal ensued and there were no complaints from the table. YUM! We decided to take desert at home. Chocolate chip mint icecream for me and a Magnum for Ingrid and Justin. Perfect meal all round.

Ingrid and I are sitting in the living room and Ingrid is wacthing TV with subtitles with the sound on low and I am typing our blog. Nephew J has a few friends over for a braai and they are currently playing beer pong in the braai room. Nephew J came to get reinforcements for his beer pong team and I declined. He used all of his charm on Ingrid who agreed to play 1 round. They won! She is now back watching her serie.

Brother and T are in bed as they have to go to work tomorrow. I guess that being on our mini sabattical we have come to accept that there are time in which we can do things, and if that is not possible, perhaps in a few hours time it will be. The wind served us lemons this afternoon, but tonight we made lemonade. So far every day had been worth it!
