Beach day!

2 maart 2024 - Cape St Francis, Zuid-Afrika

This time it was not the house that had us awake. For some reason Ingrid was awake at 01h00. No real reason, just awake. It was a good time for me to take a second set of pills for my gout. Damn that toe was sore. Back to bed and try to get some sleep. The pills kicked in after about 15 mintues and I have to say that I slept like a log. Maybe it was the night shananigans, but we slept in till 07h00. Wonderful. The gout seems to have left the building.

Funny things that I think about as Ingrid always says. During my waking moments I thought about what my body was telling me. No prizes for the correct answer, but I thought that I would fast today. Liquids only. Not for any other reason than to allow some of my body to reset and I do not have a problem with fasting. To be honest I have not felt hungry all day, although I thought of a piece of toasted Ciabatta, but since we do not have any it was an easy pass.

It was a beautiful morning and we got to drink coffee on the deck again. The last 2 days have not been that kind in terms of weather, mostly wind, but Carpe Diem/Pluk die dag. It is quite amazing how the weather can lift ones spirits and I felt at peace. Once again I had to sign off on the Yoga. Although my foot was not painful anymore and that second pill had probably broken the camels back, the joint was not up to the rigors of some of the Yoga poses.

Dusty took us to the main beach and we sat in the morning sun absorbing the rays (Benny's they call it here - Beneficial rays). What bliss. Not too hot, just right. Made to order one could say. Lekker. A while later we walked down to the waters edge for  a swim. OMG, the water was cold. Not Cape Town cold we say, but it was not warm. Our ankles began to tingle as we ventured further into the ocean and soon it was the calves, thighs and hips. I can not confirm or deny that I may or may not at some point have identified as a woman.

Cold, but ooohh so refreshing, and funnily enough enjoyable. We did not stay in the water for hours, but soon retired to the beach for a few more warming Bennys. Just lyin on the beach and staring at the crystal clear water I felt like we were blessed! This was a perfect beach day! No boogie boarding for us. We soaked up the sun and stared with blank thoughts at the perfect view before us. The judges scored the day a 10!

Early to the beach is always a win. That means that the rest of the day can do what it wishes. We had been to the bank already and got the memories safely in the vault. After washing the salt off our bodies (now slightly browner) we set off in Dusty for the village. On coming down the hill we saw about a million five hundered and eighty six hundred and twenty (private south african joke hey president and other clowns) cars parked on the field. Of course, today was the monthly market.

WIth my foot I not quite back to normal I thought perhpas next month. Driver drove onward toward the Pharmacy where I wanted to stock up on a few gout remedies and Ingrid wanted some of those Migraine pills. Not a bad thing to have a little stash. The man in front of us looked at me when I put the boxes on the counter and I said, "Stocking up on drugs". I would guess that in America that would be absorbed and no red flags would pop up. Man told me that it has been a while since he did drugs. He is over it now. That is not an odd thing to hear in a Surfers town.

Over the road from the Pharmacy was the Hardware store where we had hoped to pick up the expected 5 liters of Spirits of Salts that they had told us last week would be in stock on Firday (Yesterday). Seems like Africa to me. "It will be here on Friday" probably means that it will arrive when it arrives. Fortunately they still had the 1l bottles of said fluid, so I bought it as coming Wednesday our main man was coming to rid the deck of the green algae using the tried and trusted formula that they used last year. I am just a facilitator in this process and am curious as to the result. I guess if someone has done it before that they have already paid "Les geld" (learnt the lessons and paid the price). I would not have to follow the learning curve as someone has already done the research.

We got back into Dusty which Driver had parked so interestingly in a parking bay, but we are in Africa. It is allowed. No body stood waving and pointing fingers. As I might have done, I would have thought, there is probably a reason for them doing that. What did we need for dinner? Nothing, as Ingrid had some left over grass (haahaa a term for marijuana in RSA- see earlier drugs...)  [food] for the grazer. So off to the monthly market and we were soon parked on the grass (not the drug, but what grazers tend to eat). A short walk to the stalls, but toe was not playing ball in the slip slops/plakkies. African style I pulled them off and carried them in my hand. It was a type of arts and crafts market with a lot of local produce, baked goods and clothing stuff. Very quaint and low key. It reminded me of the hippy market on Ibiza island.

It was nice to dawdle through the market, but we really did not need anything in particular, so we took off back home for a shared beer on the deck and lunch for Ingrid and sooner than later I took a well deserved afternooner. Ingrid asked if I minded if she watched her series on Netflix? Do your thing babe! ZZZ. Later upon waking Ingrid was nowhere to be found. The doors were locked and her phone was here, so I guessed that she was upstairs in the master bedroom catching 40 winks. I boiled the kettle for some tea and soon Ingrid came down the steps with her sleepy head. Sometimes it creeps up on you...(the sleep that is).

Time for a decision. It was still beach weather and we know to make the most of it. I tied the surfski on the roof and Driver took us to main beach. She was going to tan and swim and I would take an exploratory paddle out to the lighthouse and around the point into the mild westerly wind and back again. I was intrigued as to how the sea was on the 'wild side'. Once rounding the point it was pretty clear that it would be wishy washy today. I I was paddling into the Westerly wind with the Indian Ocean swelll coming in from the left, but also a reflection wave coming back off the shore from the left. WIshy washy!

No worries on the Carbonology Sport Vault and I paddled to approximately in line with the in Cape St Francis tourist attraction (Sunset Rock) before I turned for home. Not to much to write home about, but I did manage to catch a few small runs to surf on. Lessons learnt and aved in the vault for future reference.

Back at the beach Ingrid and I went for another swim and once again lay down to catch some Bennys. I could have stayed all day, but too much sun is not desirable. Back home we showered and felt pretty darn relaxed! I know that the Formula 1 grand prix was going to be raced today and on the beach I had said to Ingrid that I did not know when I would start, but I had no inclination to have to sit in front of the screen when I had the beautiful view infront of me. Please put that on a post card!

On turning on my laptop to find out the starting time for the Grand Prix, I was surprised that it started in 15 minutes time. Just on time. Some time later our Dutch superstar had won the race and the results were in. Boring? Not really there was enough going on behind the leader to keep me entertained. Ingrid was watching her series. The grand prix has long finished and she is into episode next.

She came to turn on the light and although load shedding was not scheduled, we are in the dark. We are also in the dark as to why? heehee. The outside temeprature is divine and I am going to close the laptop now to go and enjoy an evening in Africa!
