Another peach

8 maart 2024 - Cape St Francis, Zuid-Afrika

Up in the morning and off to school. First stop coffee and whilst enjoying an impressive sunrise we express how lucky/fortunate we are to be here in this Paradise. The last few days have been made to order. How lovely! Nothing to do and all day to do it in.

Ingrid had signed up for the 08h30 Pilates lesson and I dropped her off at the Lighthouse. Back at home I took a shot a the puzzle. This one is more than a challenge. I try to do 5 pieces and then walk away. Somehow the border that we have been working on for 2 days just gelled. How could we have missed it. Bam, bam, bam. Border done. I am still almost shocked that we did not see it earlier. That has been my experience with puzzles, walk away and when you come back things make sense for a bit and then it is time to take a break again. This puzzle is also extremely difficult as sometimes pieces seemingly fit perfectly, but that is not the correct piece.

After picking Ingrid up from her workout we came home and she changed into something more comfortable (To walk in). We were going to do the walk through the reserve, have coffee and possibly a breakfast and walk back. The walk itself is about 1.5-2km one way and we were keen. On arriving at the harbour we sought out a coffee shop for our well deserved cuppa andwere told that there was load shedding (Unannounced) and that they could do food on the gas stove, but the coffee machine was out of order temporarily. Odd as the load shedding was not scheduled for another 2 hours.

We did not sit down and turned for home. So sorry for the local entrepreneur as they have to pay staff to come in and then they can not provide the service that they are open for. Pay the staff, yet income? Zero. Begs the question as to how much turnover do they loose without a generator and the cost to benefit ratio of installing a generator. We were both a little disappointed, but turned for home and made an alterantive plan. Thankfully we had a flask of water with us (standard on our walks) as one never knows what may happen. Turns out to have been a good move this time. Sufficient hydration in the lovely African sun.

Back at home we rested for a few minutes and then set off in Dusty for the Village. Breakfast at our favourite spot. I did not need to look at the menu to know what I would order. Ingrid was craving her cappuchino with almond milk and she literally sighed a sigh of intense joy when she took her first sip. I had the coffee milkshake. Can't do anything about it, it is sort of compulsory. After we had enjoyed our brekkie werver guy came to ask if we wanted the bill. Hold the paper work young man. Bring Madame another round of that coffee and I would have the Americano (Aptly named by us and Africano. Hold the milk.

After brekkie we did a bit of grocery shopping. Brother and son J were planning to come out for the weekend, so we thought ahead and bought a few extra things that we would not normally have on the list. Back home it was tea and a few choice words flung at the puzzle, but in the end a few more pieces were firmly wedged into place. Time for an afternooner. ZZZZ.

As per usual when we awake we like to have a cup of Rooibos tea with ginger. Ticks all the boxes it does. Justin had sent a message that he was on shcedule to arrive about 1.5 hours earlier than planned. No problem as Ingrid had prepared the B&B as she calls it and the place was ready for the visitors. Our washing does dry here pretty quickly and it is funny not to have to tumlbe dry it. I guess that there may be times where a tumble dryer might be usefully, but the last 4 weeks we have not needed one.

Justin went diving to see if he could spear a fish for supper. Not today, The fish were apparently all Juvenile and there is some honour in the sport. I took off for Grannys pool in the Village for the afternoon surfski paddle. I was not aware that it was a timed event, so had to put the pedal down a bit. I slip streamed the guy in the lead until the turning bouy about 2.5 km from the start. We had the wind (mild) behind us and there was not swell to help us on the way back.  After the turn I headed closer to shore to try to get a bit of help from the swell, but at the end of the day there was no benefit from this and I ended up a few seconds behind the first place paddler. A reasonably decent time, but I can not compare as this is my frist time trial on this course.

Time to relax as when I got home the fire was burning and Ingird, brother and doggy were sitting around the fire. Brother braaied and I looked on. Ingrid made the salad and I looked on. I am kind of liking this B&B! Heehee. Brother is already in bed with doggy and Ingrid and I will probably go down soon too. 21h00 is the planned time for load shedding.

PS. The unscheduled load shedding this morning had been a result of a fire somewhere in the region. Quite a lot of fires lately. Not sure as to the origin.

I do not like to forespell what we might do tomorrow. Blank page and we will fill it in as we see fit.  Sleep tight!
