Visitation.

4 april 2024 - Cape St Francis, Zuid-Afrika

We have such fun in this house! Last night we were sleeping in the master bedroom upstairs and were thoroughly enjoying some zzzz. I thought I was dreaming and next thing Ingrid lays her hand on my... (arm) and say, do you hear that? Definately. There was something chewing in the ceiling just above our heads. We thought that we would sleep through it, but it was gnaw, silence, gnaw silence, repeat. It was totally disturbing as it sounded like it was directly above our heads. We grabbed our pillows and headed down to the front bunker to sleep in peace. Maybe tomorrow I will think about it again and go take a look from the balcony to see if I can find an opening where something may enter between the roof and the insulation layer. We had more pressing issues today.

Mother was going to the specialist to get checked out from top to bottom (literally). Couzin G was going to drop her off at the hospital and we would drive through to pick her up and the day would unfold as it would. We packed for 3 days and did the dishes and cleaning up the kitchen and left home about 07h30.  We were in no rush as the journey would take about an hour and a half and we were pretty sure that Mother would not be done before 10h00. Dusty took a leisurely drive toward PE. We stopped off at the Windmill for a cup of coffee and sat enjoying the sun and scenery. It was a wonderful morning in Africa!

I wanted to stop off at the Carbonology Sport factory to see if I could get some stickers for Nameless. Jason was working with Deedum and we had a little catch up and we were soon off to the Hospital to check on the progress. Jason suggested yellow accents and Deedum and Ingrid and I went with black to complement Nameless's colour scheme. Time will tell.

Up the hill to the Hospital and we followed the signage to where they were holding Mother. Nurse lady said that Mom would be about 30 minutes. The Hospital is opposite the big mall, Greenacres. We were still looking for a few things that they did not have in CSF, so it was a hop, skip and a jump to the shopping centre. Bing, bam, boom! Done in no time. Time to look for a spot of breakfast. Woolworths for a quick bite. Boy what healthy choices and scrumptious that was. Add the compulsory cup of black gold.

As I was putting the last forkfull into my mouth the telephone rang, Mrs Potgieter was ready. That sounded positive at least. Paid the bill and crossed the road and we were at the Doctor's rooms within 10 minutes. Mom was sitting in the waiting room (aptly named) and looked a little sedated. She said that she felt drunk.

I accompanied her to Doctors desk where he put it all on the table. No nasties and nothing too serious. Inflamed diverticuli and not much else. No reason for any intervention whatsoever. GREAT news!!! Time to take Mother home and let her have a rest. Mother got into the front seat and wife had to sit in the back like the VIP that she is! We thought that Mother would plonk onto the couch and have a bit of down time with eyelids shut, but she disappeared down the passage and we thought, good, she has gone to bed. Shame her little doggy has been in Heaven for around a week now. Before long Mother wheeled her suitcase down the hall and was packing some stuff in the kitchen. We were like, Mom, take some time and rest up a bit. I am fine!

I was busy with Moms internet and TV. We had lost Mom for at least 5 days and I was glad this morning when I got a message to say that she would let us know when she was done. Internet was trial and error. start with the basics. Is the plug in? Can I connect to the modem etc... Internet was working fine. Now to the TV. Tv switched on, modem was working, source was correct. Process of elimination. Brother phoned while I was busy and we trouble shooted the problem. End of the day the plug was not plugged in securely in the socket, try another socket and we were golden! All Mom problems solved (For now. Mom has the uncanny ability to fok things up). Happy days, everything was working.

Mom had been chomping at the bit to get in the car and move on out to CSF. We were prepared to stay overnight, but considering her mood we packed her car with the bird cage and bird, her things and I drove the bird to CSF and Ingrid drove Mom in Dusty. We took the back roads (old road) from past the Van Stadens Bridge to Jeffreys Bay and Humansdorp and soon we had CSF in the sights. We unloaded Mom and did the compulsory 3 trips from her car to the house and back (Mom likes to pack for emergencies, heehee). The wind has picked up nicely and we are expecting some hard wind the next few days. Mix in quite a bit of rain. We will make the most of the weather windows that we are given.

Ingrid and Mom did a little sleepies and I lay on the floor in the lounge and a did a few stretches for my back and shoulders. Cup of coffee and I walked down to the garage to give Nameless a wash with the hosepipe to get the salt off of her. I wanted to stick the new artowork stickers on and sat with the stickers trying to work out how exactly I wanted it. Scissors and some masking tape to tape the stickers into place. I think that it will look pretty good once it is done. The wind was blowing quite a bit and I decided to hold on till tomorrow or the next day to stick on the stickers. They are taped into place and once again, I think that it will look good. I just hope that my sticker sticking skills are up to the task...

Ingrid and I went to the shops for a few groceries. We had counted on spending at least 1 day in PE and had eaten the fridge empty. Borther J had introduced us to pesto pasta and with Ingrid's addition of mushrooms it is a meal for Kings (King Glen included). Pesto pasta for the grazers and I added 2 venison cheese grillers (wors with cheese). King plus!

Mom and I chatted to older brother for a good 30 minutes. Brother G lives in the UK and was in traffic. Funny I used to phone the parents when I was in traffic in Holland to pass the time. Twice a week at least. We made a few tentative arrangements for coming to see them or they us. We also talked about December this year. Far away brother wants to come in December and January (The one from whom we are renting the house at present). This puts a little spanner in the works, maar 'n boer maak een plan (We will make a plan). Nothing is set in stone at the moment.

Mom and Ingrid have since toddled off to sleep and I spoke with far away brother who phoned on Mom's phone to get the down and dirty. I assured him that all was okay and that was that.

The wind is making the rafters squeak, so we hare happy to sleep in the front bunker. We have placed Mom in the bunker for the duration of her stay. Let us see how this night plays out.
