Massive waves!

12 april 2024 - Cape St Francis, Zuid-Afrika

Captains Log. Star date 12/04/2024. (like that one Davie?). Just one more day in Paradise. Although the morning was a little bit fresh we could do a load of washing and leave it on the line to dry. Rain prediction 0% for the day.

Ingrid took Dusty to Pilates and a I stayed at home as I was expecting a package from the South Afircan version of Bol.com, Takealot.co.za. How sweet is this. The owner of the dog that Nicki found last week on the road gave me a R500.00 gift voucher at Takealot. I ordered a new surfboard leash and today was going to be delivery day. Not quite like in the Netherlands where one gets a 2 hour windown, we get a between 08h00 and 17h00 window!

So Ingrid was at Pilates and Mother put all of her stuff at the front door for loading before lift off. I helped her carry her things and the bird to the car and before we knew it Mom and her car left for her home before Ingrid had arrived home. I questioned Mom as to her visitation of her friend here as she was supposed to go yesterday, but they had postponed until today.

Ingrid had returned from her class and as we sort of had house arrest, I asked her if she would do a coffee run to Coastal Collective for a take away and if they had some carrot cake (My favourite). I guess that Ingrid had to have been on the way back from her coffee run when I recieved a call from the courier that he was outside Jackpot with my package. Brilliant! We had the rest of the day to fill in at will!

Ingrid arrived home with the coffee and carrot cake. Lucky boy me! I had cleaned up a bit and the place looks a lot better. Mom is not messy, but having a 3rd person in the house does clutter more space than if it were just the two of us.

It would be remiss to be here and not peek on the internet as to which properties were for sale and what the price would be. I had seen 3 properties online this morning and we decided to just take a peek and see what we would feel about the different properties. Property 1 might be an option. Not quite move in ready for us, but perhaps an option. Property 2 although nicely priced got the No Good Feel, so we ejected the option. Property 3  we looked at on the way home. Possibility. I will have to look at the listing online. FIrst impression, not enough garden, but a closer inspection may give a different impression.

Before leaving for the Village we stopped in at main beach to check out the waves. Messy is the word. It was breaking all over the place and the waves were HUGE! Just like me probab;y all surfers that had stopped in had decided that it was a no go. To messy. Off to the Village where we bought the bean soup that had been advised by Mother in law in law. (Turned out to be a good meal, hearty and full of goodness. Water is always a good buy too. Refill for Family Kingy!

We had stopped off at Grannyś pools for a check on the surf and it was cooking! (Working. Firing, Fokking good!). More than 50 surfers were in the line up, all trying to get a piece of the action! Great stuff guys!!!

I slept with my wife and what a wonderful 40 winks it was! Afternooner +. We are so greatful for the sun and the warmth that it gives. After afternooners and a cup of Rooibos tea Ingrid suggested abit of beachies (Go to the beach). We sat on the beach in our bikini's (Make what you will of it) and can honestly say that the temperature and the intensity of the sun was bloody marvelous! Enjoyment factor 10 point zero! Every now and then I would marvel at the power of our Mother as she sent wave afte wave of enourmous energy in the direction of the shore. Frikking awesome!

Ingrid went for her swim and I stayed on the beach. I had a paddle later, the usual Friday night paddle from Granny's Pools to the Harbour and back. Today only 3 paddlers would run the gauntlet. Frank and I in the double ski and Dirk in the single ski. Conditions were not outrageous bue we had to time th entry and the paddle through the beach break well. Dirk set off and we wer in close pursuit. I held ground as if Dirk got hit by a wave we might have a surfski bouncing itś way right at as and that would not end well for either us or one of our surfskis.

Dirk waehtered a set of waves and I shouted to the engine (Frank). GIVE IT HORNS! We had a break in the surf and had to put peddle to the metal and shunt it! Bam, we were out beyond the break and Dirk had done likewise. Left, right, left right off to the turn bouy and on the way home we did sort of catch a few runs. It had been a nice paddle.  Now for the difficult part. Steer this baby in through the break and most importantly miss the rocks on both sides. We had little to play with noth left and right.

We stopped paddling and waited for the set to push through and managed to take the largest wave beam on as it was cupping to break. Great driving driver (Me). When we decided to floor it Dirk came from behind on the next wave and we had to put on the brakes as he could very well end up T-boning us. All STOP!! Dirk passed by and we were able to negotiate it back to the slipway on the next bump. All good!

Home safely! Mission accomplished! Time for a beer and then Dusty took me home to Ingrid who was watching the end part of her series. First call of duty was a shower and then dinner. Bean soup got two thumbs up!

Ingrid has finished her series and I am sure judging by the ending that there will be more. We  will watch the space.
