Game drive.

4 maart 2024 - Port Elizabeth, Zuid-Afrika

Lovely to be at my brothers house for a few days. They both have to go to work today as the work week begins for most. We can wake and fill in the days as it pleases us. J was going to work with his dad so we were going to be left alone. As per usual we are not able to sleep in and were up with the rest of the family.

We pretty much all left together. They went to work and we set off  for the local Game Park. We had thought to go to the region very large Addo Elephant park , also the home of the Big 5 they say, but we were pretty confident that we would only see the Big 4 at best. We would be EXTREMELY fortunate to see number 5, The Leopard.

Addo was approximately an hours drive each way and I suddenly thought of the local Game Park about 15 minute drive up the road. It is not a massive park, but one gets to see the Big 4 + 1 (The Cheetah). On our way I threw in an option to take my Mom with us. She happened to be at a Garage having some work done on her car and would have to sit there for a few hours, so our suggestion was welcome. We Google mapped it to her and she got into the back of Dusty.

First stop was just around the corner as she wanted to pop into the auditions to check on her sisters hearing aid as my aunt had an appointment there tomorrow. Very soon we were at the front gate of the park and would do a self drive. The main difference being that we were only allowed to follow the dusty, bumpy dirft road, whereas on a "game drive" the ranger could take other "off road" options. Let us not forget that the ranger would also be very knowledgable. We have been on more than 1 Safari and I thought that for this one just the game viewing would be good enough.

Bouncy bouncy along the road and we were soon greeted by our first animals. We saw a bunch and just as on a normal safari, each bend meant the opportunity to perhaps seee something. I have to say we saw loads of animals and Ingrid not only the navigator, but also the photographer) managed to get some beautiful shots on the camera that I had lent from my brother. Boy a decent camera does make a large difference.

My Mom commented quite often how she was enjoying the drive and thanked us more than once for taking her with us. The weather was also perfect for the game drive. Overcast an warm. We lunched at the restaurant and completed the drive about a half an hour later. Tremendous these African animals. There are no elephants at the park, so perhaps a trip to Addo Elephant park is on the cards one day before we leave.

Back at home was puzzle and Netflix for Ingrid and I had my afternooner. I have to say that I was down for quite a while. I also wanted to rest my foot as much as possible, because I am confident that I will be back to my normal self tomorrow. Justin cooked us a lovely spaghetti with pesto and basil and how much simpler can it be. Very tasty boet! I think that this may be his signature dish.

Later this evening I spoke to Catja on the phone and she asked me if we were able to fill our days. Yes, we can. At the end of every day when I sit down to write my blog, i think that was a good day. Of course some days are perfect, but every day does offer us something to look back on and go, Yes, that was great, good, enjoyable.

As for tomorrow? Blank canvas, but today was wonderful.

Sounds like a really good day, apart from the old toe.
