Bit of everything

21 februari 2024 - Cape St Francis, Zuid-Afrika

Who would have thought. I was awake at 06h00 and Ingrid got out of bed and went downstairs to make coffee. Bring me some please. She put the coffee on the bedside table and I had to tell her when I woke again at 08h00 that I was not pleased that she brought me cold coffee. HEEhee.

Breakfast, Yoga and Lemon juice and a swim in the sea. Ingrid did a bit of tanning on the deck as the westerly wind made it unpleasant to lie on the beach. The sea water was cold, but yet not too cold. I am scrubbing the deck at my brothers house and it is pretty hard going, but if I do a bit a day I might finish it by the time we go home. Maybe a good reason to come back again to do some preventative maintenance.

I got a call from the surf shop that they had my waterproof pouch in stock and I could come and fetch it. We had ordered a case of red wine and thought that it might be a good idea to go into the village and fetch said items. Our wraps from last night somehow did not get onto the menu, so tonight we are going to enjoy those. At the surf shop I was in and out in under a minute (one of my Cape Town friends might say that that is normal for me - ag sis). off to the bottle store and here we struck out as the shipment had not yet arrived and they told us that it was expected this coming friday. We got a bottle of red for the road.

Back home I went upstairs for a lie down and Ingrid sat downstairs reading. After my lovely afternoon nap I came downstairs and made myself a cup of coffee. Ingrid declined. She was lying on the couch and I asked how she had slept. She had not, she replied. I am tired but can not sleep. I nodded and set about checking my messages on my phone. After about a half a minute I looked up and there was Sleeping Beauty! Lids shut and looking so cute (You know who you are....)

I went outside to scrub the deck and after about 20 minutes she came outside and we had a bit of a laugh about her not being able to sleep, but was gone in seconds. l had invited my brothers in laws to discuss how to proceed with the deck. What was in thier opinion the best approach. Long story short, spirit of salts and Bob's you uncle! I guess we will be at the hardware store sometime tomorrow or Friday.

TIme for the Wednesday surfski time trial... I was off to a good start as I now had the surfski tied onto the roof at 16h00. Last week I was 1 mintue too late. I wanted to make sure that this was not the case this evening. 17h30 start and I set off at 17h00. I guess that the westerly wind was a little harder than I had anticipated and althought I made it in 1 piece driving at 40km/hr, I got my ski in the water 3.5 minutes too late and the paddles had disappeared into the sunset.

Time to make good and I felt like I was doing okay, catching and passing a few people. At the finish they told me my time, but I guess I forgot. I will have to look it up somewhere. I do know that the time was quite a bit quicker than last week. One day I will arrive on time and perhaps I could latch onto the quick guys and hold on till the end. Time will tell. After the time trial they were having a happy hour at the restaurant next door. Pizzas were going to be served.

It is always awkward to get into a new group and find some conversation talking points, but I was soon off to a start and did not feel uncomfortable for long. I guess that a start has been made and now I know 4 other people and next week perhaps another 1 or 2 acquaintences will be made. By now the wind had dropped quite a lot so the homward journey to the Mrs was less stressful and twice as fast.

On the menu tonight were vegetarian wraps, but I had a bit of venison wors in the fridge. Wholesome and lekker.

Tomorrow we are hoping to take a short drive to Oyster bay and do the penninsula walk. Perhaps in the early afternoon I may have a paddle date with our neighbour. Tomorrow promises to be the best day of the week. If I go to bed early, tomorrow will be here sooner....
