Waterfall.

20 juni 2025 - Neuhausen am Rheinfall, Zwitserland

Up in the morning and off to the shops. We have no more coffee in de houwse! We went to the Lidl for the soughdough bread and a few odds, but needed a few more things that we could not get at the Lidl. The Rewe supermarket stocked the necessary extras and even the fly swatter to replace the one that that Ingrid broke. She moered that beast so hard that all of his bones broke and the fly swatter too. Back to the house for the BEST crispy bacon EVER!

Ingrid is always checking under the car before we leave for the Kluks (chickens). Green light and it is G for GO Glen. We are off to Switzerland to the Rheinfall, the largest waterfall in Europe (Although it is technically not in Europe). It was only a 30 odd minute car drive and Ping, You have crossed the Border! A little zig zagging through the cones and we were comfortably moving forward toward destination Rheinfall. One thing that I have learnt about being a tourist is that if an attraction opens at 8am you are there by 8am. Usually the 'tourists' arrived by around 10am and then it gets busy. We parked the car in the sparsely filled parking lot and made our way to this show of POWER by our Mother Nature! Juslike (OMG in Afrikaans-sort of) this was a show of force. It was not only impressive, but also in a very pretty setting. Boats powerd up toward the bottom of the falls full of tourists and then did their trick of turning side on to the direction of the water flow and being swept back a hundred metres in a few seconds.

It was once again a wonderfully sunny and warm day and Ingrid and I decided to do the circular walk around and over the top of the falls via a railway bridge and then along the Rhine to a second bridge where we crossed over to finally arrive back at our original starting point. We stopped along the banks of the fast flowing river and took off our shoes and bathed our feet in the inviting waters. THe river itself was a beautiful blue/green colour and very clear. It was like we were in a movie of sorts, 2 people enjoying eachothers company and water and trees and hills.

Coming back to the railway bridge above the falls it is uncanny how that water being sucked over and down the falls almost have a gravitational effect on us. I felt it pull me towards the right (direction of water flow) and I could not look that direction in fear of being charmed by it's pull and ending up being seduced. Ingrid had the same feeling and we were both extremely happy to reach the other side of the bridge.

As we reached the end of our lovely walk we noted how few people took the oportunity to walk the route. Most were won over by the boat ride and thought that that was all that the place had to offer. Once again a difference between going somewhere, taking a picture and moving on to the next highlight. We prefer to have an experience and not be just tourists. We also noticed how many people were now on site and we decided to head back for home as the congestion was now Disney Landish.

On our way home we were stopped by the now present Border Guards and were stopped on the German side by the Border Guards and asked what our reason for visiting Switzerland was. The Waterfall was my answer and buddy seemed kind of upset, but waved us through. Ping, You have crossed the border!

We had decided to drive back to Ludwigshafen and have lunch before going home for the reason we wanted to be home in the afternoon. Parked the car, did a little walk on the boulevard and then sat down at an Italian restaurant for lunch. Ingrid needed the Aperol Spritz and I did my beer justice. The food,  as it did last night, arrived in very short order and two happy people ate and drank and sat and enjoyed! With a view over the lake  and the perfect weather we did not need to be anywhere else in the world. Lucky us!

At home we realised that we were a day early for our appointment with the Internet. Just assumed early on the in the week that the 21st was a Friday. This gave us time to alter our plan and after an afternooner we drove a short distance to go for another walk in the Black Forest. It was once again pleasant to be under the shade of the canopy and it was once again another lovely walk with my adventure partner. We came across a woman on horseback and she did not have the guy under control. At the best of times I am scared of horses, but seeing her lack of control of the horse, i was anxious. Add in the narrow width of the path, I was not a happy person. Thankfully she passed without anyone getting injured and I felt my stress levels slowly lower. Later on the walk as it was circular we came across her again.

The horse had its head down and was eating grass and Mrs was fiffing and faffing about something. When she saw us she guestured for us to come on past, but I thought that this one I wanted to wait out. Mrs then throws the reigns over the horses head and that thing bucks and kicks out and manages to get the reign threaded through one of its forelegs. Now Mrs is in a tizz. I am definately not going anywhere. Come on through she guestures. No way Lady! Mrs now proceeds to try to thread the reign back through the foreleg of horse and he is not too happy about it.

Having completed her task Mrs take horse by the reign and kicks a tree stump before turning horse around and mounting from the tree stump. I think horse is broken at this point. Too embarrased for words! I am sure that if he could have spoken he would have apoligised profusely for Lady. No animals or people were harmed and I was terribly glad to clear the duo.

Jord took us home and we then went out to the garden for a beer and wine. Sitting under the tree with a beer in hand and my adventure partner next to me we absorbed the peace an tranquility that can still be found on this earth! Kitty cat thought that it was a good idea too and it came for the back scratch and a meow or 2. He then crossed the gravel path to go and sit in the sun in the long grass just waiting for a possible mouse or mole or something.

Dinner and another beer for good measure. It is so much nicer than a hotel although it is easier to just tell someone that you have perused their menu and they can prepare, serve and wash up afterwards. We have our own kitchen with all mod cons and now after another humiliating back gammon loss I am ready to sit and do some more reading.

Thank you for the music is on the radio and I say thank you for this day. Pluk de dag (Sieze the day)!!!!!
