Settling in

10 januari 2026 - Cape St Francis, Zuid-Afrika

After a rather rowdy evening at Jackpot with a steady flow of soms strong stuff and some not so strong stuff we headed off to our abode and a well earned nights sleep. This did not happen. I awoke to Ingrid screaming that we werebeing attacked and we had some sort of a strobe light flashing in our room. Being awoken from a deep sleep it took a few moments to register, but then the strobe light stopped and it was dark again. I got out of bed to look around and saw the security guard with his torch doing his rounds. Nothing seemed out of place so we turned over and began to resume our sleep.

Mintues later we got strobed again and it was confusing and disorientating. I turned on the main light in the room and the strobe light stopped. This time we talked about what we thought was going on and by this time the whole house was awake. Ingrid had seen a light coming through the cutrains, but had surmised that it was the security guard, but then she had heard movement in the house )ended up being Bo going to the toilet) and finally we had an alien strobe light in our room. All sounds and lights accounted for except the strobe light.

At the third stobing I was able to locate the approximate position of the strobe light and when I turned on the main bedroom light once again the strobe light ceased. The position of the strobe light origin con-incided with the main lamp, so I drew the conclusion that their must be some sort of an electrical short circuit or leak for the main light to strobe even though the switch was in the OFF position. I removed the bulbs in the main lamp and that sorted out the strobe light problem. We would wait till morning to do some research.

Up in the morning and off to Mr Google. Seems that modern LED lamps can accumulate leaky electricity and once it reaches a turn on thershold it tries to turn itself on, only to immediately switch off due to not enough power to stay on, but then gets another few volts and treis to switch on again.. etc. LOng story short, there seems to be a leak in the electricty to that light and it is either leave the current ( haahaa) bulbes out or replace with the old incandecent bulbs. Blooming hell. Welcome to Africa!

Early in the morning we went to the beach at the required time, but met the couzins going to the light house for a coffee. We said that we would join them after I had a quick swim and a 1 wave body surf. Being in the ocean is BLISS! It is my happy place for sure! I can not remember the details, but on our way to the lighthouse for that coffee with the couzins we passed he cousins going the other way. Okay then we were in for that coffee so we drove to the lighthouse and sat down and ordered coffee and breakfast. 2 minutes later I got a message that the whole family were going to the Rambling Rose for breakfast and ETA was 09h15. ERROR! I asked the waiter if he could cancel our order and he ran to the kitchen to put a stop to it. THankfully the kitchen had not begun without order and so we were in the care and driving to Rambling (our favourite place in St Francis Bay for that family breakfast.

One by one the families arrived and soon it was another organized chaos with the whole family. We have never left the Rambling Rose with a feeling of discontent. Great service, great food and a great vibe! Our boy Craig does a great job. I whisped the girls off back to the Resort for their pedicures and I got to sorting out a few administrative things and chilling on the couch. After the pedis Ingrid and I dropped Bo and Fleur off at a friend of Bo‘s. They were going to have an afternoon braai with Jess and family and then go to sunset rock for sundowners. Ingrid and I caught up with a well earned deep afternoon sleep before going to pick up Fleur from Jess.

We did a little bit of shopping as Ingrid had left her hand luggage at home by mistake and needed a little bit of make up and then it was off to Jackpot for our second braai of the holiday. Boerewors rolls and a salad and a beer or two and a Rum tasting. Banana flavoured rum. Delicous! Who would have thought? PS we did go and picik up Bo from Jess after shopping, as they had had a little too much of a party (the parents) and were not going to drive. No rum tasting tonight.

I must make more time tomorrow to catch up as the days are getting away from me… The weather has been very good to date and who remebers the snow and cold in Holland?
