New toy.

28 maart 2024 - Cape St Francis, Zuid-Afrika

We are now sleeping in the front room downstairs. The bed in the bunker is too hard for Ingrid so we have now slept in the front room for the last 2 nights. Ingrid feels that her back likes this bed more, but her neck not so much. It has to be the pillows. Lol, trial and error, but we are dynamic and learning along the way.

Ingrid let me sleep in and then before I knew it it was time for coffee. Yoga on the mat for me with teacher. I am not allowed to touch teacher during the lesson! (Blush). What's that old saying, you can look but you can not touch. I like that yoga teacher a little. We had a good lesson again today and I felt looser by the end of it. This yoga made me hungry, so I made myself breakfast. Egg and bacon on toast with cheese for me and egg on toast for Ingrid.

The glasses come out of the dishwasher a little cloudy so I thought perhaps it is an idea to get some rinse aid for our next load. I get ahead of myself. After brekkie I put the Malibu board on the roof of Dusty and we headed off to main beach for a session. I took some gorgeous waves and Ingrid lay on the beach. After my 4 waves (beauties they were) I came back to shore a little tired in the shoulders and arms. We went for a swim together and the water was just wonderful, as was the temperature on the shore and the sun was just hot enough that we could enjoy a morning on the beach.

We felt like we could lay on the beach forever. Much to see and little to do! What a pleasure! Then the hunger began to kick in. I decided on 1 last wave, so I paddled out to behind the breakers and waited for the mother wave. Wave of the day! One wave wonder my brother calls it. In and out and a beaming smile! It had been a memorable morning at the seaside for both of us.

I once again apped supplier for the track and trace link so that I could take the reigns into my own hands. I checked the website and my package was still out for delivery. Last update 26 march. That is 2 days ago. I sent the shipping company an email to request an update as the website was not very helpful. Nothing else to do than to go grocery shopping.

Go Dusty, take us to the Village. Our grocery shopping cart was fuller than we had thought by the end of the shop as we had stocked up on a few things more than what we had planned on. I even bought a tv-splitter thingy for a project I might work on, something that I had seen on the internet with 2 rivets, a splitter and a coaxial cable. Boys must have toys to play with. I have since seen another thing where one needs a sim card and a coaxial cable. They even had a coaxial cable in the supermarket, but I did not purchase it as it was 10 metres long and cost R79.00 (too long and too expensive). Project to be continued.

Skip forward to lunch and an afternooner. I had since seen on the website of the shipper after playing about a bit that my package had been delayed due to traffic on the delivery date 2 days ago and had been returned to the hub in Port Elizabeth. Yesterday no action and today it was again "out for delivery". We had no plans for the afternoon, so it was wait and see. During my nap I got a notification, but I ignored it as I thought that it was probably the paddle app here as there is a race scheduled for this weekend.

When I checked my messages, the notification had been an email from the shipping company in reply to my email. They were going to deliver today at all costs! Exciting! Aound 15h00 a truck pulled up infront of the house and it could not be anything else than my new toy, my Malibu board that I had ordered from Durban. Yes please!!!! I have told myself that this is my birthday present. To Glen from Glen! Yippee. I got straight into unpacking my present and I was happy with my choice from the options that were in stock.

Small detail is a pressure ding near the nose (front) of the board. A pressure ding is a small dent like in a car where the paint is not broken or the dent does not affect the strucutal integrity of the surface, it just has a dent. I guess that the board is going to have a few scratches and bruises along the way, but at least it is water tight. Eish (african for kak) I was hoping for a fin to accompany the board. I had the board and a cover, but not the fin. 'n boer maak een plan (a farmer makes a plan is the literal translation - necessity is the mother of invention may be the English equivalent).  The board that I am borrowing has a fin from the same company that I ordered my Malibu board from. TIme for a transplant. Not plug and play, but not much more than than. Time for some fun.

I had bought a new leash a few weeks ago as younger brothers leash had snapped at the ankle strap due to non use. 'n boer made a plan and it is functional, but I wanted to put a new leash on my new toy. Problem. My new leash was blue and the board was black and red. Dusty take me to the Village! Ponto! We went back to the story where I had purchased the leash to try and swap it for a black one. No luck on  a direct swap. I had a blue 7 foot leash and the only suitable repalcement was a 6 foot leash in black. Competition grade no less! Small matter was that the leash that I now wanted was R40 cheaper than the leash that I had purchased and the shop policy was no money back. I could shop for something for the difference. Now I do not know if you have been in a surf shop before.... There is NOTHING for R40. A fin for my board was around R3500. I decided to cut my losses and accept the replacement and "loose my R40". That is €2. Acceptable! Talking of that I had a little laugh to myself as the coaxial cable of R79 was only €4 - too steep. LOL!

Back home I prepared my new toy and we got into the car. This was probably our first marital altercation in the last 2 months. I was going to drop Ingrid off at Kingys beach and she would walk to main beach and meet me there. What about the car key? Where would I leave it. Okay, she would come to main beach with me and wait. Next thing she asked if I had brought towels. Eish. Oversight! A little stress in the car. New plan. She would drop me at main beach with my toy and would drive home and back to fetch towels and anything else that one tracked mind had forgotten!

My new board performed. Lovely, lovely! It is going to take some getting used to to paddle on my knees, but she loves to catch waves. Big waves, no problem! It is in the little details, but I know that I am going to enjoy this board and the sea! Ingrid managed to film my final wave which brought me all the way to the shore. Happy chappy!  We sat on the bench at the beach and could probably have stayed there for a lot longer. Sometimes it is difficult to say enough, tomorrow is another day. PS The water temperature today was lovely. Cool, but not cold.

I found the missing fin in the board bag when we returned home. Supplier had said that I should look as it should be in the box. It was, so we are now fully kitted out and happy. I braaied some lamb chops and we ate the leftover vegetable lasagne with mushrooms. Lovely lovely. It is a wonderful night out temperature wise and it is wind still.

This has been a thoroughly enjoyable day. Thanks be to our Mother (Nature)!
