New experiences

18 februari 2024 - Port Elizabeth, Zuid-Afrika

Saturday it is. Coffee to start the day. In no time we were ready for our walk at Sardinia Bay along the coast. It promised to be a beautiful morning so we were in the car with brother and dog. Hiccup. There was a big cycle tour on, the Herald cycle tour, and the whole of the beachfront was closed and the walk was cancelled. Ach shame, I guess that the dog was the most upset when we arrived back home without having gotten out of the car. The dog did get a walk around the nieghbourhood.

We left brother to continue his project and Ingy & I set off for brekkie with his wife. Lekker lekker. Next stop was Woolies for some supplies for tonights braai. Our parents were invited and we needed a few bits and bobs for the salad. Back home I realised that I had forgotten to buy some beer for the braai, so I set off once again, but the bottle store (Liquor store) was only a few minutes from brother's house si I was back in a jiffy.

Not much to do at brothers except help here and there, be the "handlanger" (The guy that holds and passes the tools and sometimes gets roped into manual labour). Around noon Ingrid and I decided to go swim in brother's pool. She looked stunning in a one piece and I wore board shorts and a rash vest (Lycra t-shirt for sun protection). Ingrid had never learnt to swim freestyle and today we did a lesson in the hardest part of this stroke, breathing whilst moving the arms and legs. We took it slowly and step by step and soon she was doing pretty well. I am proud of her for just doing it. We did not expect to progress to the Olympics, but she has the basics down now and as we say... needs to make kilometers. Next time she can continue to practice. Well done Ingy!

My Mom arrived a little later and the 3 of us had a sit and chat moment. I took an afternooner and Ingrid watched some TV. After my nap we got things ready for the braai and brother took a swim while I got the fire going. I had my new braai shorts, so he let me do everything. Much like cooking in someone elses oven. It takes time to learn the in's and out's, but I will give myself a pat on the back, everything was cooked nicely. Braaing is actually an art, some things need more heat than others and some things need less heat and more time. Kind of juggling with different objects.

My Dad had brought some of his favourite wine, Roodeberg, a subtle red. He loves it when Ingrid has a glass of Roodies with him. I did have 3 beers to help me braai. A few comments from brother, but I had my braai shorts on, so everything was just dandy! Pretty much as soon as we finished eating, the parents left. Not great for the Old people to drive at night, so we sent them of on their merry way.

Brother thought that his work for the day was over, but his wife wanted some what we call Christmas lights strung up in the garden. She had 3 sets to be hung, but as luck would have it brother was not tall enough to reach without a ladder. I threaded the lights through the fence and they look pretty good. They are solar rechargable, so she will probably not have to do anything but enjoy looking at them.
