Grateful

15 februari 2024 - Cape St Francis, Zuid-Afrika

Okay, these nights are just the best. I do not think that we have had a full nights sleep here yet. Heehee. Wind prediction was favourable, so we settled in for a good nights sleep. At some time in the night the light house keeper must have come home and set off his fog horn by mistake. Not having a watch on or a clock in the bedroom, one does not know what time he decided to tease us. Fact. The fog horn sound for 5 seconds, then for 2 seconds, then for 5 and then for 2. That is 1 set. apparently it is a 30 second sound show! Peace restore, I was back into that lovely sleep.

Round number 2! Once again I do not know what the time was, but it was middle of the night still. I awoke to the sound of a car door closing. less than a mintue later another, this time 2 doors in close succession. Blimey, the neighbour was coming home from a party at this time of night and perhaps their son or daughter (and for those of you inclined any on of 28 026 others) came home too. I could hear them talking outside and thought, take it inside so that that I might go back to sleep. Curiosity killed the cat! I was out of bed and walked over to draw aside the curtain (horror movie style) to take a peek at the goings on.

Outside were 3 vehicles from the security companies that partol this area. House owners here can not really rely on the police, so private companies are employed to respond to alarms. One of the drivers was searching the property across the road with his torch and 2 men were talking next to the cars. A little later a resident with a lamp on his forehard came up to them and was pointing and gesticulating this or that. I could not hear what they were saying distinctly. 10 minutes later they were back in their cars. Car doors closed and they drove off. This was my cue to go back to bed and I was in dream land pretty quickly.

Hup. 06h30 wakey wakey and coffee was poured. Ingrid had apparently slept through the adventures on the other side of the street. Yoga today was mid back loostening and breathing. I can do this. Lemon juice drink down the hatch and off to Port St Francis for the Shark point walk. 4.5km along the coast. A coat hanger shaped circuit to the wreck at Shark Point and then back a bit before we walked across a type of other planet landscape to return back onto the original path back to the Port.

This walk cost me R350.00. Silly traffic cops with a lazer gun thingy. Fined for 66km in a 50 zone. Our "helper" today was at least cordial and very pleasant. Thank you officer, but F... Why is this necessary on a road going to nowhere? Another experience richer it was soon forgotten on our walk.

Back at Jackpot I noticed the neighbour over the street walking and asked her what the commotion was about. Apparently it was not her house, but 2 doors up that persons had tried to break into. The security company had seen her gate open and thought that perhaps the baddies had gone into her property to hide. She was blisfully unaware that the men from  security had been on her property, and though it she did notice that her gate was open when she thought that she had closed it.

we had breakfast/lunch with what was left of our delicious loaf from Baker Barry's. Banana and Peanut butter sandwiches. Yummy. Time to do some admin on the computer and sort out a few things before once again playing catch up on our nights rest.

With the wind having once again picked up in preperation for tomorrows storm and the clouds covering the sun we sat infront of the computer and looked at properties in the area. No harm in looking and getting a feel of what is available. No thoughts on buying, but it was interesting to look at least.

Windy and westerly. Some shelter at main beach. Into the car and off to boady surf. Looking at the surf, I decided that boogy boarding (body boarding) was the right choice. It was. I caught the biggest waves of almost every set and the smile was wide. The waves were not large, but sucked up on the sandbank and threw themselves at the sand. Doing the bakgat boogie (thinking you know it all) Mother Ocean decided to teach me a lesson and dumped me full blast onto the bottom. On taking off on the wave, I thought, this is going to be a wild one, but as the waves were not so big, I thought, "What the hell. Go for it"! Bam. I was thrown on the bottom and I lost the boogie board in the process. Thank you for the lesson Mom!

A few waves later I came out of the water fully refreshed and rejuvenated. Ingrid decided to walk home and I drove back for the wonderful shower.

So here we are again, blog time. It does actually take a lot longer than I thought that it would to write this. I am glad that I can type with 10 fingers, but still it is time consuming, Time that we have. I am thankful for this opportunity and thankful for the people a the "back of house" at home making sure that things are running smoothly. Thank you Catja, Rhys and Bo! Regards to Fleur as well.

Thank you people!
