Family time.

24 maart 2024 - Port Elizabeth, Zuid-Afrika

We had a lovely braai last night and slept pretty well at our second home base. Time for a cup of coffee and into the VW bus with doggy for a walk at Sardinia Bay nature reserve. The sun was shining and the wind was mild.  A perfect day for a walk along the ridge and onto the beach. On the one side of the path a recent fire had ravaged the whole bush and the other side was saved a bit. Down the hill and at the beach one would not have said that there had been such a savage onslaught to the natural environment.

There is a natural pool where we swam in the cold water and felt refreshed with the sun already starting to privide some real heat. It was lovely and refreshing in the cold water. Too lovely to put into words. Doggy also enjoyed a cool down in the sea. Back at home we had planned to go for breakfast with the family and showers were the order of the day to wash the salt off of our skin.

We had phoned my Dad to ask if he wanted to join us, but he was being picked up by his niece who would take the old man out for breakfast. Only a table for 5 please. Our family did not have to look at the menu to know what they were going to order, but Ingrid and I took a scroll through the offerings and got our order dialed in. The food did take longer than we would have liked due to the busy restaurant on a holiday weekend, but the food was good. I had to ask what a red cappuchino was. It is a rooibos tea cappuchino [I named it a Redbushchino].  Coffee for me though.

By the time we were home it was almost time for an afternooner. The next part of our day we had decided to go and visit my mother to pick up my sweat shirt that I had left at her place. We did search for it for a day or two before I phoned Mom to ask if she had it. Yes my son. Brother had spent a few hours at Mom's yesterday as her internet and therefore her TV was not working. Work around in place, she needed a charging cord which we would bring for her so that she could once again watch TV and be connected to the outside world. We sat and chatted and the final fix was pretty easy. Plug in the makeshift modem and attach the cord to the electricity supply. Her dog is doing better.

I had forgotten that Ingrid and I had been out and about after the short afternooner to go to the only remaining Cotton On in PE. Ingrid had wanted to get some things for her wardrobe, but we did not score at the shop. We did however find somethings at Woolworths and H&M. After the shopping we went in search of a coffee shop that was open. For some reason almost everything was closed at 2pm. We really had our work cut out for us to find a place that was open after that time. Finally our efforts were rewarded and the coffee did taste pretty good.

So shop, coffee and Mom and home for dinner and a bit of admin. One of the reasons that we had come into town is to print and scan and email a form to the USA to order 2 treatment tables for my new colleague and myself. He is taller than myself and the ergonomics of the current adjusting tables that I have are not ideal for his height. A good middle ground is a table that is adjustable in height. Delivery some time in May/June.

While I am typing we are watching some or other cricket game on TV and it eventaully went down to the wire and was pretty exciting. Time for a cup of tea and the next nights sleep.
